Why it matters

Sport departments make repeatable decisions every term: which competitions to enter, how to allocate staffing, what to prioritise, and when to change a pathway. Without a record of the reasoning, teams only remember the outcome. That makes learning slow and handovers fragile.

The one-page standard

For every significant decision, record five things: the decision; the context; the evidence used; the assumptions being made; and what would change your mind. Add a review date. This is not bureaucracy. It is an insurance policy against institutional amnesia.

Use it after the decision

At the review date, compare the original assumptions with reality. Keep the decision if it held up, modify it if conditions changed, or stop it if the premise was wrong. The value comes from becoming better at deciding, not from defending the original choice.
